Oral Surgery –What?

Oral surgery is an international specialty in dentistry. It includes the diagnosis, surgical and related treatment of diseases, injuries and defects involving both the functional and aesthetic aspects of the hard and soft tissues of the head, mouth, teeth, gums, jaws and neck.

A patient is referred to the surgeon when the dentist indicates that the speciality of a surgeon is required, in the same way as your GP may refer you to a consultant for further specialist treatment.

Oral surgery is carried out in the dental surgery here in Portlaoise under local anaesthetic or sedation (twilight sleep). Your preference will be discussed during your initial consultation.

Following your initial consultation Mr.M. Sharif Nayyar will discuss your case and decide with you the most appropriate time and place for your procedure.
Oral Surgery Referrals

Mr.M. Sharif Nayyar, Specialist Oral Surgeon, regularly visits Churchview Dental Practice. Referrals should be made via your Dental Surgeon/GP, this can be done on-line here. Alternatively referrals can be made by letter appointments requested will be sent by post.
Should you need to change your appointment, you should do this as soon as you receive the appointment letter.
If you intend to use Private Medical Insurance for your treatment, a referral from your Doctor/Dentist is essential.
